If you’ve never been Scuba diving and have always been fascinated by the big blue, well, you’re a lot like us. Scuba diving is quite a tedious adventure sport, what with the need to do certifications and training before you can go on your first dive, but little did we know that you CAN SCUBA DIVE WITHOUT ANY PRIOR EXPERIENCE! It all began when we were researching on some pre-booked activities and tours in Bali, and we found some amazing dives on Viator.com. We took the risk of booking a tour that had no reviews whatsoever and cost ₹12500/$175 per person.
Honestly, we didn’t know what we were thinking, but we blindly trusted it because it is Viator. Booked to an agency called Diving Indo, the dive that we chose was a beginners dual dive, one at Manta Point, and the other at Crystal Bay, with pick-up and drop to the hotel, and lunch included, spanning over 8 hours. The whole experience was incredibly professional, right from the driver who came to pick us up, to the diving school themselves, who are 5 star rated by PADI. We were picked up from our hotel in Seminyak at 8.30 AM and transported to the dive centre in Sanur, where we would be fitted with our suits and fins and equipment on trial. Our instructor, Idy, was incredible, giving us a basic land training and equipment training and practice, after which all equipment was loaded onto the speedboat and we took a 45 minute journey to Manta Point in Nusa Penida.
Here we got suited up and were fitted with our tanks and were dunked into the water along with our instructor. What we loved most was the instructor to student ration which was never more than 1:2 , which also meant absolute personal attention and all eyes on us. Once in the water we practiced all the techniques we learned on land on the surface of the water, along with revising our hand signals for communication underwater. Idy ensured we were 100% comfortable swimming on the surface before going any lower, and kept a constant hold on us and checking on us to ensure we were comfortable every time we dove a little deeper.
We were ridiculously lucky and spotted Mantas almost immediately after we started diving, and it was mind-blowing to be a few feet away from the rays, who were swimming by us, above us and below us so majestically! Watch our video of us diving with Mantas below!
After a good 45 minutes underwater, we resurfaced and got back on the boat, getting ready to go for our next dive at Crystal Bay.
As the boat sped off for another 20 minutes towards Crystal Bay we caught our breath and were still reeling from what we had just seen. We arrived at Crystal Bay and were served a ridiculously delicious lunch (one of the best we’ve had in Bali) of rice, steamed veggies, chicken and tempeh; fascinatingly simple yet incomparably satisfying. Post lunch, we settled for a bit, and went on for our next dive.
Needless to say, getting in the second time was far simpler, and adapting to the changing environment, pressure and what not was far easier this time. At Crystal Bay we spotted some incredible coral reefs and beautiful fishes; several of the cast members of Finding Nemo made an appearance, and 45 minutes didn’t seem enough. Here’s another quick video from our dive at Crystal Bay
We surfaced, feeling like never before, having fallen in love with diving. A world below ours that gives you a feeling you cannot experience no matter how many 4K UHD clips or how much NatGeo you watch. The ocean is a magical adventure land that has to be experienced first hand to fall in love.
We highly recommend Diving Indo. Our instructor Idy was super amazing, and took so much personal interest in ensuring we had the best time.If you’re interested in going for this dive or some of the other ones available around Bali check out the links below (we booked through Viator.com, but you can book directly from the Diving Indo website too!)
